Recreation

Fayette County is an outdoor recreation destination with something for everyone. From family-friendly parks and community recreation facilities to hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, whitewater rafting, and scenic overlooks, there are countless ways to enjoy the natural beauty of our county and the New River Gorge.

Fayette County Park offers opportunities for swimming, fishing, hiking, disc golf, picnicking, and family activities. The county is also home to the breathtaking New River Gorge Bridge, an iconic landmark spanning 3,030 feet across the gorge and rising 876 feet above the New River.

Each October, the bridge becomes the center of Bridge Day, West Virginia's largest single-day festival. Held on the third Saturday of October, Bridge Day brings thousands of visitors to Fayette County to watch BASE jumpers, rappellers, highliners, vendors, and other activities while enjoying spectacular views of the New River Gorge.
