Illegal Dumping

Abandoned furniture, appliances and garbage can be an eyesore and pose a potentially negative impact to property values. Illegally disposed chemicals, tires and construction debris can pose a health and safety risk to citizens, especially children who may unknowingly play on or near the dump site.

Illegal dumping affects the quality of life of Fayette County citizens and visitors. Chemicals, tires and construction debris can pose a health and safety risk to citizens, especially children who may unknowingly play on or near the dump site.

Abandoned household garbage, bags of yard waste, appliances, old barrels, used tires, and demolition debris such as lumber, shingles, pipes and asbestos can threaten the health of humans, wildlife, and the environment. Known as open dumps, these sites can be found throughout West Virginia heaped at the bottom of ravines, in empty lots and along roadsides.

Open dumping is prohibited by law! Fayette County Litter Control Officer, Joey Carelli is authorized to enforce the laws relating to litter, open dumps, and proof of proper solid waste disposal.
